Ellen Harris, PresidentLetter from AMS President Martha Feldman

14 April 2017

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As acceptances and rejections go out for jobs, fellowships, and funding and in the wake of much derogatory speech in our world, I write to encourage all engaged in musicology to show each other respect and support. There is much cause for distress in the current job market, whose effects on our membership are deeply concerning; and the temptation to lash out in anger and frustration is great. In stressful times we all must redouble our efforts to show each other respect at every opportunity.

The American Musicological Society’s board and committees have established and follow guidelines for ethical conduct. Regarding professional conduct and issues of harassment, please see especially our Guidelines for Ethical Conduct, III.A.2

Warmly,
Martha Feldman
President, American Musicological Society
