Author Biography

S. Andrew Granade, University of Missouri–Kansas City

S. Andrew Granade is Professor of Musicology and Associate Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs at the UMKC Conservatory. His teaching has been awarded at UMKC by the Chancellor’s Early Career Award for Excellence in Teaching (2010) and the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Excellence in Teaching Award (2010). Granade’s musicological research focuses on the American Experimental Tradition, particularly the composer and instrument builder Harry Partch. His book Harry Partch, Hobo Composer explores the impact of the hobo persona on Partch’s life, work, and reception, as well as the issues of exoticism that arise from it.
