The Pedagogy of the Pedagogy of Music Appreciation

Abstract

The Pedagogy of Music Appreciation course at the University of Southern Mississippi is designed to prepare graduate students in music performance to teach music appreciation classes at the college level. This essay addresses the need for such a course, suggests ways to organize it, and offers reflections from both students and community members who benefited from the free Music Appreciation course administered by the pedagogy students. The course syllabus and sample assignments are also discussed.
