Charge: Consider applications from students in or graduates of North American universities to conduct doctoral or post-doctoral musicological research in France.
Guidelines: Students are eligible if they attend or have graduated from a North American university. If they seek to conduct research for their dissertation, they must have completed all other requirements for the Ph.D. If they seek to conduct post-doctoral work, they should have completed the Ph.D. within the past five years. Preference will be given to applicants whose home institutions do not offer financial support for musicological research. The application should be in the form of a statement of up to 1,000 words describing the research topic, a research plan, projected itinerary, and institutions where research would occur. It should also provide a budget for travel and lodging. The letter should state the amount of support that can be provided by the applicant’s home institution, if applicable. Archival research in Paris was the basis for both the training and the musicological products of Bartlet’s life. This committee works in conjunction with the LaRue, Powers, and Wolf Committees in making its awards

Charge: Charge: Consider applications from graduate students writing dissertations, independent scholars, and faculty working on editions and scholarship on classic song in all its contexts, as well as new and innovative technologies for promoting and understanding classic song via interactive media and the Internet.

Timetable: Applications must be received by 15 August. This date coincides with the publication committee’s deadline for subventions for the Fall. The winner will be decided by early October and announced at the Annual Business Meeting and Awards Presentation.
Other Concerns: The chair must keep in close communication with the chair of the Publications Committee regarding applications for subventions that could be considered for the Hampson Fund.

Charge: Consider applications for research and travel expenses from independent scholars who are members of the AMS.
Guidelines: The award is open to members of the AMS who hold the PhD or similar degreee (e.g. DMA in Historical Performance), who are not employed as a full-time faculty member in an institution of higher learning, and who are not emeritus faculty. Examples of projects supported by the Levy Fund include travel to the annual meeting of the AMS , to a conference to read a paper or participate in an official capacity, or to archives or research libraries; research expenses; microfilms; and specialized research materials. Award amounts will range between $500 and $2,000. Applications consist of a narrative up to 500 words outlining the project and its importance for the applicant’s career, a detailed budget, a curriculum vitae including a note on current employment, and one letter of recommendation from a scholar familiar with the applicant’s work (to be sent under separate cover directly from the referrer to the AMS). Timetable: Applications are due by January 25 each year for travel and research to be undertaken between March 1 and August 31 of the same year, and by July 25 each year for travel and research to be undertaken between September 1 and February 28. Notification of the award will be made within one month of each application deadline. Funds must be spent within one year of the award.
Other Concerns: No individual may receive a Levy Award more than once in a three-year period.
