American Musicological Society
Southeast Chapter

Fall Meeting, September 20, 2008
Appalachian State University

Location:

Recital Hall (Room 129)
Hayes School of Music
Broyhill Music Center
Appalachian State University
813 Rivers Street
Boone, NC  28607

Directions:

From the East on Highway 421:

As you come into town on Highway 421 get in the left lane and turn left following the large overhead highway sign directing you toward South 221/Truck North 421/South 105/Blowing Rock.  Turn right at the second light following the large overhead highway sign directing you toward North 321/ASU/Downtown.  At the second traffic light, turn left onto Rivers Street at the main entrance of ASU.  The Broyhill Music Center is on the left side of the street at the fourth traffic light, (which is a pedestrian traffic light).

From the Southeast on Highway 321:

In Boone on Highway 321 you will come to a large overhead highway sign directing you keep driving straight ahead toward North 321/ASU/Downtown.  At the second traffic light after this sign, turn left onto Rivers Street at the main entrance of ASU.  The Broyhill Music Center is on the left side of the street at the fourth traffic light, (which is a pedestrian traffic light).

Parking:

There are a few parking lots near the Broyhill Music Center on the same side of the street and there is a large parking lot across the street.  You may park in any of these lots without a parking tag on the day of the AMS-SE meeting.

Lodging:

The following are the major motel chains that have a location in Boone:  Best Western – Blue Ridge Plaza, Comfort Suites, Country Inn and Suites, Fairfield Inn and Suites, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta, Sleep Inn, and Super 8.  There is also the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center, which is associated with Appalachian State University.  In Blowing Rock (about 8-10 miles away) there is a Days Inn.  There are also a number of small private motels in Boone and Blowing Rock, but none are listed here, as I do not have any idea of their quality.  Unfortunately Boone, as a tourist town, has motel rates that are higher than you might expect in a small town.  If you find that the rates at the places above are too high, you might try the nearby towns of Lenoir, Hickory, or Wilkesboro.
